Collaborative Post: Definition of Technical Writing by Hayden and Jason

Technical writing is a scientific document that is specific, detailed and understandable. The message must be able to be understood by the particular audience. Technical writing can be in many different forms, and found in many different mediums, such as but not limited to electronic, paper, and vocal. For a Civil Engineer, these writings can include project and assessment reports, construction documents, job specific emails and in contracts. Efficiency is the most important aspect of technical writing. The writer wants to have enough information for the reader to understand without unnecessary details. The document must be well organized and easy to read as well. In order for a person to be a technical communicator they must be knowledgeable in their field to display the subject efficiently. Technical writing is very important, and must not cause miscommunication which leads to many problems. Technical writing relays important information to its audience.
