Response to 4 Articles

All four articles dealt with importance of communication in everyday life. After reading the articles, it is very evident that technical writing also plays an important part in our everyday lives. The first article was the most useful in general, because the definitions were technical in nature. Ordinary people responded to in an ordinary way to the common question posted. Seeing views of different people on the subject of technical writing was very interesting. In the medical field, technical writing is very prevalent. The third article followed on the lines of my field (medicine) the most, covering the fact that technical writers are trying to reach out to the general public concerning technical issues that would otherwise be very hard to understand.

The third article was also very useful because the definition was straight up and also very relevant to my field. It helped me get a better understanding of technical writing, from a different angle, unseen prior to me reading it. The Department of Labor article was also helpful. The following passage from this article is a perfect example of how well it explains very clearly what technical writers do; “Technical writers put technical information into easily understandable language. They prepare operating and maintenance manuals, catalogs, parts lists, assembly instructions, sales promotion materials, and project proposals.” Each article was very informing and applicable in my field.

The power point presentation was good, but it was very detailed. I had trouble applying it to the field of medicine because the slides seemed to jump around a bit. The other articles were a little more useful because they were short and basic. The traditional articles got more to the point without listing different elements and things like “impediments to efficiency”. However, the definition was there, just more detailed I specifically prefer.
