Response to the 4 readings with respect to my future profession as a commercial realtor

I found that with the exception of the last power point document, the other three articles were more of an in depth analysis of technical communication rather than technical writing. I know technical writing and technical communication are roughly synonymous, but I did find some of the material to be a little off track(especially article two). I think article two(the Department of Labor submission) mainly consist of a more informative guide to what it takes to be a technical writer/communicator, not how to write this way. I did find some of the material in this article interesting though, especially the job outlook and earnings sections.

From article one I can most closely relate my future profession(commercial real-estate) to interpersonal writing. This is simply because interpersonal relationships connect buyers and sellers in real-estate, commercial or residential. Article one said that interpersonal communication "pertains to our ability to connect with other people through a discussion of thoughts and feelings, in which our ability to listen is just as important as our ability to talk." This might as well be one of the commandments of real-estate. In real-estate, you have to really work for the sale. Your ability to listen to your client's needs and demands combined with your willingness to respond in a timely and efficient manner is what separates you from the rest of the field. This is extremely important because an agent's reputation is always at stake.

I found article two to be geared more towards journalists and creative writers, etc . I did enjoy learning about the different organizational structure in the newspaper and magazine industry. It was interesting to gain an inside perspective on many of the different positions within the realm of the communication world.

I thought article three had a great introduction. Based on article three's definition of technical communicators, virtually every profession can relate in some way or another. In my future profession, many real-estate agencies have elaborate websites that list properties. There are also several brochures and magazines that list property. However, many of these publications are independently owned and operated on a commission basis and are not directly affiliated with their featured agencies.

I thought the last power point document was the most focused on technical writing. After all, the entire presentation was centered around defining technical writing. On slide three there were two sections showing what technical writing is and what it is not. I found this slide to be simple yet effective. Commercial realtors have to be practical and professional, on and off of paper. Overall, each of the selected readings gave me useful information and insight on technical writing.
