Progress Report for Individual Proposal Project
To familiarize readers with the topic I was to elaborate on in the body of my paper,I decided to open with a brief description of technical writing, both using my original, tentative definition and the one I devised after collaborating with a partner. Through supplying this background information, I was able to help the audience establish a more solid understanding of the content that was to follow. I realized that a knowledgeable reader would possess the ability to evaluate my proposal more subjectively. Therefore, I would benefit through feedback that was both focused and constructive.
I used the next few sections to expand on the relationship between technical writing and graphic communications. Although I personally group the paragraphs under one part of my paper, I headed each individual section for my reader’s convenience. I began with research I conducted on the internet, followed with information gathered from my interview with the prepress demonstrator, and rounded it out with my own personal experience at two different internships. I included these sections because I wanted to establish credibility on my subject matter. Not only have I actively sought the ways in which technical writing pertains to graphics, but I have experienced it first hand in a real world setting. I feel that this section is most important in gaining the audience’s trust. Establishing trust with my readers allows them to open up to the idea of actually accepting my course proposal.
The third section is the heart of my paper. All of the background information leads readers up to this section. Here I begin by detailing my goals for the course, those graphic courses that currently address technical writing, and finally my proposal for merging graphic communications and technical writing. Being as though my readers are graphic students and professors, I have structured this section using specific examples for assignments so that they may easily identify with my plan. Although I began my proposal with the intent of creating a new course, I take readers through my thought process and eventually show them how I arrived at my answer for integrating technical writing into graphic communications.
