Post 1-Letter 1

Kathy Bolton

Student Services Coordinator

Department of Materials Science and Engineering

June 10, 2008

Ms. Bolton,

My name is Alan Joshua DuPree and I am a Ceramic and Materials Engineering major. With me being a rising junior, the time is quickly approaching for me to be planning for my post undergraduate career. After careful consideration, I have decided to apply for the Graduate School of the Materials Science and Engineering Department. From prior knowledge, I understand that there are a number of requirements such as a resumes, recommendations, personal interviews, etc. that are mandatory for consideration into the Graduate School. To ensure that I have all of the necessary requirements for admission, I would like to set up an interview where I could ask about the types of things that would make me more appealing to the admissions committee. I am looking forward to setting up this interview with you so that I can be prepared for what’s to come.

Sincerely,

Alan J. DuPree

Nice job. I'd substitute the word "appointment" for interview, and say something more like "in which I could get your advice on how best to complete my preparation" rather than "the type of thing that would make me more appealing" if I were you.
