Technical means specialization of something and writing is a way to communicate with others. In this day and time it can be on paper or electronically. Technical writing conveys specific information about a specialized or technical subject to a specific audience for a specific purpose. According to the US Department of Labor's "Occupational Outlook Handbook" here is the definition of a technical writer. "Technical writers put scientific and technical information into easily understandable language. They prepare operating and maintenance manuals, catalogs, parts lists, assembly instructions, sales promotion materials, and project proposals. They also plan and edit technical reports and oversee preparation of illustrations, photographs, diagrams and charts. "

I think about nursing and technical writing as writing policy and procedure manuals. I work in Nursing Informatics and I also think of our training manuals and self study modules we put out with changes in the charting screens that we create.
